What do you get when you cross Aeonium and Sempervivum? A stunning Semponium!
Assuming we still have some summer days ahead of us, it’s wise for a green specialty shop like a florist and a garden center to be prepared in terms of assortment.
These two Semponium varieties love the sun and don’t need much water, but they also tolerate cold well. While cold nights are not expected in the short term, you can leave the Semponium outside down to -5°C.
Each variety has its own ornamental value: the Semponium ‘Sienna’ changes color spectacularly with the seasons: bright red from spring to fall, green-purple in fall to early winter, and dark burgundy in late winter. The Semponium ‘Sienna’ has a compact size and grows to about 40 cm high and 40 cm wide. It develops into a beautiful dense, cone-shaped plant as it matures. The rosettes are large and strong, the leaves thick, sturdy, and shiny. Care tip for your customer: Place the ‘Sienna’ in sun to partial shade in well-draining soil.
The Semponium ‘Destiny’ is recognizable by its large rosettes and striking dark purple, veined leaves with a light green heart in winter. What makes this impressive Semponium even more interesting is that it retains its intense colors year-round, unlike most other purple Aeonium hybrids.
The ‘Destiny’ has a compact growth habit and grows into a beautiful, dense, cone-shaped plant as it ages. The rosettes are incredibly strong and are known to start branching after a year or two. This robust plant has thick, sturdy, shiny leaves and requires hardly any maintenance. Care tip for your customer: Place the ‘Destiny’ in sun to partial shade in well-draining soil.
Even when placed together as a set, the consumer will get beautiful contrasts on their patio table.
