Grandpa & Grandma in the spotlight!

At the Partou after-school care center in Almere, children are working with great concentration these days on colorful surprises for their grandparents. Sunday, October 6, is Grandparents’ Day. Children across the country are therefore busy this week creating gifts for their grandparents. The aim of this new holiday is to celebrate the special relationship between the younger and older generations and to combat loneliness. At Partou, a nationwide childcare organization with over 700 locations, about 2,000 children have made beautiful bouquets for their grandparents or for elderly people who are lonely.

Fighting loneliness.
On behalf of the Grandparents’ Day Foundation, theater-maker Gerda Lenten Havertong, known from Sesame Street, attended the cheerful afternoon: “This day for grandfathers and grandmothers is mainly a festive occasion, as the interaction between them is often joyful because it comes from the heart. That’s why there are various fun activities for children, such as working with flowers. The Grandparents’ Day Foundation promotes friendship between young and old. It makes life more enjoyable and helps to combat loneliness.”

Flowers.
Under the leadership of Bloemenbureau Holland, various sponsors made the flower campaign at Partou possible. Chrysanthemum and spray rose growers donated their flowers free of charge, while wholesaler Willemsen from Apeldoorn took care of the distribution. Each package also contained floral foam dishes from Smithers-Oasis and a packet of flower food from Chrysal.
