Matricaria, scientific name: Tanacetum parthenium, is a cut flower with a natural, spring-like appearance. Its spicy fragrance, abundance of flower buds, and distinctive colors make this bloom an essential component of the modern bouquet. Do you already have this cheerful cut flower in your assortment?
Feverfew – another name for Tanacetum parthenium – features small flower heads measuring 2 to 3 centimeters in diameter, with yellow disc florets and white ray florets. When the leaves are crushed, they release a strong chamomile-like scent.
What makes this cut flower so appealing is the way the blooms are spaced out and positioned at the top of the stem, giving it a playful look. It is also renowned for its excellent vase life. Tanacetum works beautifully in both mono-arrangements and mixed bouquets or floral designs. See the attached images for inspiration!
– Tanacetum ‘Rio’ and ‘Baya’ are bright white varieties with well-filled, dome-shaped flowers.
– Tanacetum ‘Amazone’ and ‘Amero’ are yellow varieties, also with well-filled blooms.
– Tanacetum ‘Single Vegmo’ is a single-flowered variety with white petals surrounding a yellow center.
There’s a fitting color or flower shape for every type of floral arrangement.
In many cultures, flowers carry symbolic meaning. Tanacetum represents courage and determination — the ability to overcome obstacles and persevere through challenging times. It’s a meaningful element to consider when creating arrangements for special occasions.
Tanacetum is available year-round, thanks to a number of specialized growers, such as Van Egmond Matricaria (Bleiswijk) and Matricaria by W. Grootscholten (Ammerzoden), who cultivate this cut flower in greenhouses. During the summer months, Tanacetum is also grown outdoors.
