This week, breeder and nursery H.M. Tesselaar from Heerhugowaard proudly introduced a striking novelty: Alstroemeria Fashionista ‘Sofiena’ … a pink single-flowering Alstroemeria. A flower type that has not been grown on Dutch soil before, making it quite special. Florists, garden centers, and flower arrangers take note, this novelty is now available daily!
As is often the case when naming a new flower or plant, ‘Sofiena’ is also named after two daughters from the Tesselaar family who also came up with the name: Sophie & Fienne. Sophie is the daughter of Melvin Tesselaar, and Fienne is the daughter of Linda Tesselaar. Beautiful, isn’t it?
The ‘Sofiena’ has emerged after crossbreeding and is the forerunner in the program of single-flower Alstroemerias, with more introductions to follow in the coming years. The next colors are, of course, a tantalizing mystery. It is worth mentioning as this novelty hits the market: The ‘Sofiena’ is characterized by its vibrant pink color, excellent leaf quality, and long shelf life.
