Before showcasing a beautiful flower shop or garden center decked out in Christmas decorations in the category “Recent store visit, visiting…,” we visited Garden Center De Nieuwstad in Elburg. The ancient town of Elburg is beautifully situated by the Veluwe border lakes: Veluwemeer and Drontermeer, and it is one of the most noteworthy Hanseatic cities in the Netherlands.
Historically, the town gained its fame as a bustling fishing village on the Zuiderzee. In 2024, it is primarily a tourist attraction, drawing culture enthusiasts and water sports lovers. Elburg is surrounded by Biddinghuizen and Dronten, located in the eastern part of the Flevoland province, as well as by Kampen, which is in the Overijssel province, and Wezep, Oldebroek, and Nunspeet, situated in the Gelderland province.
It is at the intersection of these three provinces where Garden Center De Nieuwstad is located, a complete garden center with a village-like charm, where a knowledgeable team provides customers with expert advice on houseplants, outdoor plants, pets, ponds, and a wide range of home and garden-related products. This is a true green specialist store, which celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2024. Brothers Martin & Johan Klein have proudly owned this shop since 2009!
During our visit to the garden center, we were positively struck by the emphasis on both indoor and outdoor greenery (houseplants and outdoor plants). Both the seasonal plants in the cold greenhouse and the outdoor plant collection appear varied, offering much more than just a basic range. The outdoor area is approximately 1,000 square meters, allowing for an extensive selection of trees, while the covered shopping area spans about 3,000 square meters.
In short: if you’re in the Elburg area anytime soon, a visit to Tuincentrum Nieuwstad is definitely worth your time!
