Marimo, symbolism for happiness & purity

It makes a lovely decoration in the living room or kitchen, or as a living element in an aquarium or pond. For these different applications, customers in your store can ask for Marimo (Cladophora aegagropila).

Perhaps you have had them in your store before, but if Marimo is still an unknown product: the Marimo is also known as a moss ball … an algae ball originating from Japanese traditions. In Japanese culture, the Marimo symbolizes good luck and purity, making it an original gift item due to this symbolism.

The Marimo moss ball is not actually a type of moss but a rare living algae species. It comes from Japan and originally grows on the bottom of Lake Akan. Due to the movement of the water, it rolls along the bottom of the lake, thus maintaining its shape. It grows slowly and can live for more than 100 years, reaching a diameter of 10 centimeters. In addition to their long lifespan, they are known for their ability to purify water. The name Marimo means bouncing water plant.

If a customer asks how to care for the Marimo, you can provide the following instructions: Caring for Marimo is very simple: change the water once every two weeks. Then, gently rinse the Marimo in cold water and gently roll it around in your hands. It is important not to place the Marimo in direct sunlight. In nature, they are found at the bottom of large lakes where there is little light, making them unable to withstand direct sunlight or bright lamps.
