Bouvardia, a gift in the vase

The Bouvardia, with its small blooms that open like a gift in the vase, originates from Central America, particularly from Mexico. The Bouvardia is a flower that continues to enchant even in the vase. Jaap Vreeken, one of the two Dutch growers of this product, once described it as follows: “The small buds of the flower clusters open one by one like little gifts.” The Bouvardia symbolizes enthusiasm, which is why you often see this flower in bouquets given for celebrations.

It is a member of the Rubiaceae family, making it related to products such as Coffee, Gardenia, Ixora, and Pentas, a family connection that is not widely known. Over the years, the assortment has developed step by step, resulting in more than 20 beautiful varieties available today, both single-flowered and double-flowered. A Bouvardia is always recognizable by its trumpet- or star-shaped flowers and is available year-round from Vreeken Bouvardia and Borgijink Bouvardia

Bouvardias can be placed in a vase on their own, but they are often seen combined with other flowers in a bouquet or arrangement. The versatility of this flower is varied because it is stably available in lengths ranging from 40 to 70 cm, and sometimes even longer. Due to breeding and new varieties, the Bouvardia has evolved into a beautiful, long-lasting flower that can remain fresh in a vase for up to 14 days.
